Stages of loss and grief



Grief can be best described as the normal internal feeling one experience in reaction to a loss. People often suffer emotional pain in response to loss of anything that is very important to them such as a friendship, a job one’s sense of safety and home. Grief is referring to loss of a loved one through death. The expects advise those grieving to realize they can’t control the process and to prepare for different stages of grief.

Stages of grief

  1.        Anger-The anger may be directed at inanimate objects; you find complete strangers, family or friends. The anger may be directed at our dying or loss of loved one
  2.         Bargain-this is the normal reaction to feelings of helpless and vulnerability. We may speak with God in spirit.
  3.        Denial and isolation- the person of terminal illness or the passing away of and to deny the reality situation. It is normal reaction to rationalize overwhelming emotions’ from the facts. When we blocks out the words and hide we tell ourselves that this is temporary response that will us through the e first wave of pain.
  4.        Depression- there are two types of the depression associated with morning. The first step is reaction to practical implications relating to the loss. This stage is sadness and regrets predominately this type of depression. The second type of depression is subtle and more private. This stage is quiet preparation to separate and to bid our loved one farewell and we need a hug.
  5.        Acceptance- this stage of mourning is a gift not given to everyone.Her death may be a sudden and unexpected and we may not see beyond our anger and denial. The affected person is marked by withdrawal and calm.
