Suicide is not an option



Suicide is best defined as a desperate attempt to escape suffering that has become unbearable. Most of the time the people are blinded by hopelessness, isolation, and self- loathing the only solution for them is death. Despite their desire for the pain to stop, many are conflicted about ending their own lives.

Suicide warning signs


  • ·         The person talks about killing themselves.
  • ·         Having no reason to live.
  • ·         Unbearable pain.
  • ·         Being a burden to other people.
  • ·         Feeling trapped.
  • ·         Acting recklessly
  • ·         Isolating from family and friends.
  • ·         Aggression.
  • ·         Visiting and calling people to say goodbye.
  • ·         Always depress.
  • ·         Loss of interest.

Suicide prevention

1. Speak up if you’re worried-sometimes talking to a friend or family member about suicide though and feeling can be difficult for anyone. Give the suicidal person the opportunity to express his or she can provide self from loneliness and it may prevent a suicidal attempt.
2. Respond quickly in a crisis-respond quickly if a friend or a family tells you that he or she is thinking about death or suicide and evaluate the situation and danger the person is in.

You can ask the following questions that can help you assess the immediate risk for suicide:


  • ·         Do you have a suicide plan?
  • ·         Do you have what you need to carry out your plan such as a gun, knife and pills?
  • ·         Do you the exact time you will do it?
  • ·         Do you have a valid reason to commit suicide?

3. Offer help and support- the best way to help you friend or family is by offering an empathetic, listening ear. You can let your love one know that he or she not alone. Talk to about your feelings and get support of your own.

Helping out a suicidal person


  • ·         Follow up on a treatment-make e sure your love one or a friend takes medication as directed.
  • ·         Get professional help-Do everything in power to help a suicidal person and call a crisis line for advice and referrals.
  • ·         Be proactive-Don’t wait for the person to call you or call back visit the person and invite the person out.
  • ·         Encourage positive life styles changes- the person must be mindful about her lifestyles such as diet, enough sleep and exercise regularly.
  • ·         Make a safety plan- you must help the person to develop a set of steps he or she promises to follow during a suicidal crisis.
  • ·         Remove potential means of suicide-make sure the person is denied access to pills, knives, razors and firearms.
  • ·         Continue your support over the long haul- stay in touch with person periodically checking in or dropping by.
