Say no to sexual violence



Sexual assault can be define as any voluntary sexual act in which a person is physically forced to engage against her will ,or any no consensual sexual touching of a person. It can be describe as form of sexual violence and it include rape, groping, and forced kissing. Child sexual abuse or the torture of the person in sexual manner. Laws differ by state and sexual assault refers to any crime in which the offender subjects the victim to sexual touching that is unwanted and offensive.

Types of Sexual Assault


  • ·         Child sex abuse- the adult abuses a child for sexual stimulation;
  • ·         Elderly sexual assault-its victimization of an older person over the age of 60,most suffer from decreased functionality, frailty and weakness and rely on caretakers.
  • ·         Domestic violence- can be define as a crime of power and intimidation and relates highly to sexual assault.
  • ·         Rape- is an assault by a person involving sexual intercourse with another person without that person permission.
  • ·         Sexual harassment- its intimidation, bullying of a sexual nature, or unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors.

Effects of sexual assault


  • ·         Physical effects- the victim can have physical trauma not suffer any physical injury, the stereotype can be damaging because the victim is inclined to report to police or seek medical help.
  • ·         Emotional effects- the victims will have long-term psychological effects such as denial, helplessness, dislike of sex, self- blame, anger, shame, anxiety nightmares, fear, mood-swings, loneliness, depression and not trusting oneself or others.
  • ·         Economic effects-the victims lose their jobs or quit after trauma.

Sexual Assault Strategies


  • ·         Stay in control-protect yourself by staying sober.
  • ·         Self-Defense-. Attend a self-defense class it might help you in future.
  • ·         Set some limits- It is good to let other people know what you want and what you don’t want. If you don’t want to have sex say no at any time.
  • ·         Trust your feelings- if you feel not comfortable trust your instincts and get out of the place or situation.
  • Watch out for warning signs- always avoid risky situations like being alone with the stranger. To watch for disrespectful language or controlling
